The group, though not all 100% on board, decide to make a go at clearing up the old log camp and making it their new home base. Aeodan, knowing it was Bronwen’s idea and knowing Bronwen has a pathological need to get credit for everything, is wary that the younger man will want to be in charge of the camp. He shares his concerns with Owain.

With traps, carpenter tools, and a hefty dose of motivation, Yan and Ed decide to stay behind at the camp and begin clearing it up and making it habitable while the others go explore the infamous dungeon where Anawawd was killed. Ed bestows the snake control staff to Murf, should they need to do any snake control, and Aeodan will bring the bronze broadsword…just in case.

They set off in mid-morning quietness, bracing themselves against the damp, cold air. The dungeon was located in the cleft between two hills, near a blackened charred tree that had been struck by lightning. On the way in, Aeodan had been picking wildflowers which he intended to leave as a humble memorial to Anawawd, should they come across the spot where she had been drowned.

The stone rooms and passageways were dark and gloomy, as one might expect a dungeon to be. They continued on from one room to another, ducking to get under low archways without hitting their heads. At one point Cad noticed two crude, broken arrows on the ground and this spurs Owain to tap the floor stones with his spear before stepping onto them, checking for traps. Luckily, nothing dangerous was triggered.

They came upon another room that had three small doors on one wall, two of them partially open. Owain peered into the first, finding a bleak cell with only a hammock, old dirty clothing, and a box. Aeodan checked out the second room, also a cell with a hammock, table and chair, and…SURPRISE! A humanoid lizard creature came lurching out at him! While Aeodan is busy fighting this “thing” the 3rd door bursts open and two more of these vile lizard creatures, so human like but yet so not, attack the closest guys to them, Branek and Murf.

The combat was fierce and fast, and all 3 creatures were defeated. Found on the creatures and in the box were 9 copper pieces, 6 silver pieces, and a garnet brooch worth 25 silver pieces. They felt like they’d won the jackpot!

After catching their breath and congratulating each other on the good fortune, they headed east down the steps where they found themselves in a room with a stylized stone statue of a Dwarven warrior. It must have been at least 8 feet high. Next to the statue was a weapons rack containing a mace, hand ax, two daggers and shields. Additional weapons might come in handy!

Looking closely at the statue’s face and eyes, Aeodan got the idea they should follow its gaze to see what “he” was looking at. The exact spot revealed a lever to the left of the doorway. Bronwen pulled it…*click* …stones begin sliding and a one foot wide section of the base of the statue opened up to show gleaming shiny silver on a tray. 200 silver pieces! And 200 copper. JACKPOT!!!

One more idea dawns on Aeodan…is there something hidden beneath the tray? The tray is pulled out completely to reveal an ornate silver box (which in itself was worth 50 silver pieces) filled with RUBIES. 100 gold pieces worth…

JACK. POT.

They return to the camp, feeling victorious and rich, deciding to bury the valuables in honey sacks, down in the well.
