I am pleased to announce my second McHack booklet Monsters & Treasure is now live on DriveThruRPG.
This companion to The McHack – Rules Tome contains around 80 monsters, both old and new, statted for my simple game. It also contains McHack-specific Treasure Tables. You can pick up a copy at the link below for the princely sum of $2.00 (the main Rules Tome is currently available for $3). Maybe this time I’ll hit the elusive Copper Seller rating – oooh!)

The McHack is my own simple heartbreaker that I use for running sword-and-sorcery games at my table, and for solo play (which it is particularly well-suited for, if I do say so myself). While the production quality is *very* simple (I put both books together using Word on my iPad – yikes) I believe it has some good ideas. I’m particularly fond of the simple and versatile 1d12 system used to resolving all tasks and saving throws (basically anything action where the outcome is uncertain).
In addition to the d12 resolution mechanic the game uses a (slightly) simplified d20 combat system, where Strength only affects damage (not to-hit rolls), and each class/level combo has a built-in to-hit mod.
Monster stats are very similar to other B/X-style games, with the addition of a Reaction Array – five simple possible reaction outcomes resolved on 1d12 roll.
Lastly the easy-to-use danger die is a once-per-turn mechanic that resolves light-source expert, the need for rest, and wandering monsters, all in a single 1d12 roll.
Please do consider checking out my little game. Even if you don’t bring it to the table you might pick up a handy house-rule or two for your own game!
Cheers,
Mog
